El 9 de julio, seis atacantes llegaron al casino en un coche guinda, abrieron fuego, y en medio del tiroteo, Alexis y otra persona fueron asesinados. La Fiscalía ha incautado un arma de fuego, 30 elementos balísticos y ha revisado 77 cámaras de vigilancia. Las críticas se han dirigido a las deficiencias de seguridad del casino y a la actuación de las autoridades municipales.
