Have you ever asked what money is and why we have the money we do? In this talk, Harold describes the history and intention of money up to modern times. Our current monetary system was built pre-internet, and we see systemic issues with money printing and debt leading to record inflation levels and widening wealth inequality. Because money is the glue that holds our society and civilization together, our globally connected but politically divided world is prime for a new form of money. Harold Tan has built and exited two internet companies and is currently a partner at GoGreenSolar, a nationally recognized business focused on helping homeowners and homebuilders install solar. He has a passion for the empowerment that decentralizing technologies provide, and in 2014 helped transact the world's first solar installation paid entirely in Bitcoin. With a deep technical background, Harold has spoken globally to business leaders and academic institutions on Bitcoin, energy, and the evolution of money. In his spare time Harold studies disruptive technologies and volunteers as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at UCI's Applied Innovation Cove. He graduated from UCLA and studied entrepreneurship at the Anderson School of Business and information systems at Harvard. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
